Stuart and Mike are a great double act. They know their stuff inside out and are happy to share their experience and knowledge. I now feel that I have made two new friends. The training day was relaxed, informative and fun. No hard sell on equipment just advice and guidance as to what you need to succeed. It certainly convinced me that this is the business for me.
A very enjoyable day and packed full of information which was exactly what I was after. Mike and Stuart are an excellent duo and know the business and technical side inside out. I certainly have sufficient information to do some local market research and see if this is right for me. As others have said, no hard sell. Some nice anecdotes of how Stuart has actively discouraged people in the past from spending money! Venue was great and a really friendly and relaxed atmosphere helped by a fun bunch of delegates. Just a couple of minor negatives: The day struggled on timekeeping and I wasn’t able to stay long enough to see the full technical demo. And guys – the ‘Canon-bashing’ wears a bit thin after the first 4 hours!! 🙂 But a good day overall which achieved my aims completely and excellent value for money.
The 5000 words available may not be enough, however, I congratulate the guys from SI on an informative and very informal day. The key issues I needed answered were covered for me, especially, in regard to optimising sales on the event day, and using the proper facilities and language, to promote a professional aproach to our business before the client and public. I observed that both Stuart and Mike are capable of presenting a seminar on this level in a careful and professional manner in their own right, but equally between them, both formed a great team. The delegates at this presentation were also a friendly lot, which helped make the experience very comfortable. We have purchased the mitsubishi Click system, and the day was an opportunity to see how others experience using it, and other systems, and their results on hand. It was interesting seeing what utilty equipment is required at different venues and how to overcome obstacles and problems, which do persist at times. After filling in the gaps of my own knowledge in this field of photography, I now feel a great deal of confidence with advertising, procurring, pricing and running any size venue, formal and informal, and in any part of the world. Outside of this presentation I have found the same helpful assistance over the phone from these guys whenever I have required it. The venue was at a hotel, which was convenient for me to stay over night, the food was excellent, and the company great. Thanks System Insight for a great day.
When I was first asked to cover a school prom I didnt know one end of Event photography to the next, but I said yes, and apparently according to Stuart and Mike, and as anyone who attends the course will find out, that was the first thing I got right, “always say yes”,then worry about what you have said yes to. Having made several internet searches for prom photography the name “System Insight” kept appearing. So I phoned them, and I wasn’t long talking to Mike before I was convinced the next step was to attend their training course and find out exactly what was involved. I must emphasise here that there was no hard sell just plain good advice. Superb location, excellent hospitality, and a thoroughly enjoyable day all round. Both Stuart and Mike obviously know their “stuff” inside out and the way the course is delivered is informal yet highly informative, and again no hard sell, just solid advice. I came away full of enthusiasm, full of ideas and placed an order with them next day. Having dealt with a number of different people at System Insight over the last few weeks, everyone has always been more than helpful and willing to spend the time talking you through, what must seem to them sometimes, the smallest of problems. Can highly recommend them, and the course, and certainly very glad that I said “Yes”
Roy and I both thoroughly enjoyed the course. It was very intensive and packed with useful information for the complete novice. I particularly liked the “anecdotes” from Stuart. They were much more than funny stories that made you smile, they really taught you about the sort of pitfalls to watch out for. It was great having Mike giving the Professional Photographers view of events and the equipment that System Insight sells. At no time did we feel that we were given a “hard sell” – quite the opposite. Good to have equipment on hand to look at and try out if we wished. Would have liked to have more time to see how Clik system works. Would have been good to try to shoot a few images and then choose image with “client” and then print. Location was brilliant and lunch was superb. Really appreciated the special rate at the hotel. We hope to be in a position soon to invest in a Clik system and go on a marketing course with you. An excellent day by Stuart and Mike. I learned a lot from the sessions. It isn’t only the main parts of the course that are so informative but Mike & Stuart’s anecdotes and answers to individual questions are invaluable. They are both so keen to help people succeed without trying to sell products. So many professionals are very protective of their skills and working practices it is refreshing to find two people and a company that are prepared to share their knowledge and experience. I would certainly recommend System Insight as the first point of contact for anyone thinking of moving into Event Photography – I don’t think you will find two more knowledgeable people in this area than Mike and Stuart.
Mike and Stuart have got a very nice and relaxed way of putting all the relevant points of the day across,it was a thouraghly enjoyable and fun day from which I learned a lot and left with a headful of ideas for my new business venture,so it is a big thanks to the both of them, and for me it is upwards on onwards.
Stuart and Mike immediately put me at my ease and explained that my sales and marketing background would be a great asset in helping to build a successful business. The teaching style is very informal with a stream of anecdotes to illustrate many of the points that are raised. The content of the course mainly concentrates on the practical aspects of successfully marketing your business and running events rather than the technical aspects of the photography involved – although there was an excellent hands on session at the end of the day. I definitely learned a great deal from my day with System Insight and I am sure that just by avoiding the mistakes and pitfalls they highlighted I will save a huge amount of time and money. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Mike and Stuart are always very generous with their time and advice over the phone and this aspect of their ongoing service will mean that I will certainly be supporting them with my future orders for equipment and supplies as my business hopefully grows from strength to strength.
Having attended the above mentioned course I felt it only right to review it & the company – which I do not do often. I have photographed dinner dances for many years & it was now time to change my workflow as it was a struggle to find a company prepared to print my photos on the evening. An instant printer was the obvious answer but which one? I met Stuart Morley of ‘System Insight’ at a couple of trade shows & bent his ear for some considerable time. I received all the advice & guidance I needed & took the plunge. I then attended the course. To begin with, a great venue. There is no doubt Stuart & Mike knew their stuff and are passionate about the business. It has inspired me to extend what I do & who I will contact locally & there were some great tips regarding the marketing. The fact that the course ran over by a couple of hours showed that neither of them were clock watching and gave as much as they could & what was wanted by the delegates. I really did not find Stuart in anyway a hard salesman just giving sound advice. Having purchased the system, either Stuart or one of his staff, have been extremely helpful, even with the seemingly daft questions. I only mentioned to Simon a couple of days ago about a template that I felt would be useful and hay ho he’s done it & sent the file through already. You don’t get that service with too many companies these days – take your money & that’s it !!! I really do like that extra touch & believe it’s worth that little bit more to get it. ANY advice or equipment you need for event photography then System Insight is highly recommended.
You get there in the morning and the usual thing happens? No one knows each other and it’s left to the presenters to put you at ease! The course was so informal and easy going even though it’s a long day, you did feel that the day went by very quickly and all the info you need is printed out and worked through during the days event! I found Stuart and Mike full of insight “if you will forgive the pun” into how we as clients should go about getting up and running in the easiest way possible. With Stuart’s background in the equipment he sell’s and the way he markets his company and Mikes insight into the photography aspect of the course it became apparent very early on in the day that they love what they do and want to pass their expertise on to others! I will definately be dealing with System Insight in the near future and feel confident that I will be well looked after! I would recommend and urge any one with the ambition to do this type of business to go on this course! Don’t bother looking for other courses which maybe cheaper and maybe not as good! What can I say system insight picked a splendid venue, great food to keep us going throughout the day plenty of hot drinks if you required, training room was spacious enough to try out any equipment made available to us,the training was very informal and interactive. Both Mike and Stuart made light work of what they needed to get over to us, any photography questions Mike answered likewise anything associated with the printing side then Stuart dealt with it As far as I am aware all students there on the day mixed with each other or do they say networked. I enjoyed myself thorughout the day enough to call them back within the week to purchase some equipment off them
I had been thinking about Event Photography for a while and following a chat with Stuart Morley at Nikon Solutions show in London last November I received a follow up call from Mike Orr – no hard sell, just good informative advice. I booked a place on the course. Then followed the SWPP Convention where I had an opportunity to see ‘The Photo Bus’ with its assortment of high tech hardware. The day of the course duly came and after driving through gales / rain arrived at the stunning location of New Place Hotel, north of Southampton. From the moment the course started it was highly informative with good solid advice from people who know what their doing ! There’s no hard sell on equipment – just the pros / cons of each with the main message being give your customer what they want and keep it simple. Following an excellent lunch the afternoon session was just as informative. Mike and Stuart continued to pass on their experience/knowledge from actually doing Event Photography – what better way to learn. The day even over ran and I didn’t leave until around 7pm an extremely enjoyable and informative course – one of the best I have done – If your thinking Event Photography – think System Insight.
Reviewer: Jorge Namihas I came across System Insight when I was browsing through the internet. I was looking for a Dye-Sub Printer. The same day I phoned Mike Orr and he explained in great detail what the course was about. I did not need any persuasion, I signed up there and then. The course itself was excellently managed by both Stuart Morley and Mike Orr. The course is interactive so you have many opportunities to ask all the questions you want. The course was very well planned an executed and you are guided step by step from beginning to end as to the way how best to approach each different event. We also had the chance to inspect all the equipment such as printers, cameras, lenses, lighting etc. For any event photographer to be, I think this is the course to attend, not to mention the lunch was first class. I had been considering buying a sub dye printer for some time and heard great reviews about System Insight so when I found out they ran a course in event photography I signed up The Hotel and setting for the course was great The course itself catered for all levels of photo experience. I wanted to know the marketing and workflow information as I can already take photos. I intend to start doing event photography, and this was a good leg up to it as they let you know their hints and tips. Someone once said ” how come you get experience just after you need it?” Well, this course helps with that as you are free to ask Mike and Stuart anything and they have been there and done that. I will find the info invaluable in the future and it has given me the extra boost I needed to go out there and do it. I have just ordered from them, so it will be all systems go soon!
Without doubt this was one of the most informative and interesting courses I have ever had the pleasure to attend. At the end of the course my head was spinning with ideas and enthusiasm to take back home and work on. Mike and Stuart, from System Insight, take you light heartedly through all the pros and cons and pass on what seems like all of there vast experience of event photography. From the types of events it’s possible to attend, through equipment used and required, work-flows, sales and marketing to mention but a few. It’s all very interactive with lots of time to ask questions, see and use the equipment and pick their brains about any parts of the process you might not understand. If you have doubts or preconceptions about what event photography can do for your business, attending this course will answer all your questions.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course and felt it was worth the trip from Hereford. You must think of the outlay as future investment for a very lucritive future. You will also get more out of this course if you ask alot of questions and get involved. Stuart and Mike are a great pair and really knowledgable, milk them dry and they will give you all their extensive knowledge!!! Sit there quietly and you will learn but you won’t have as much fun!! I am off with my fancy printer and my head is buzzing, can’t wait to get started!!!!
I first came into contact with Systems Insight whilst searching for a dyesub printer for event photography. When I discovered they ran courses I signed up for the first available and was extremely pleased that I did. Having spent 20 years in the graphics industry I undestood that workflow would be one of the biggest issues. How best to get the product to the customer. Prior to this course I had spent many days considering many different scenarios and the best approach. With their years of experience System Insight gave me a cost effective solution to every workflow problem I had considered plus for some I hadn’t. This alone paid for the course several times over as I would have almost certainly spent money needlessly had I not attended. In addition to this the sales advice will increase my turnover at each event and the expert market advice from a event organiser outlines the best approach to market. Overall this course offers excellent value for money and I left full of enthusiasm and with a new confidence, bolstered by the excellent support offered by System Insight.
The course was very well structured and presented, the instructors were competent, polite and very informative. I would recommend this course to anyone involved in Event photography. I do not give praise lightly, however, System Insight delivered what I required and I am very grateful. Many thanks to everyone.
I can’t recommend the System Insight training course enough.Being new to event photography, the help and guidance given by Mike, Stuart and the System Insight team has been invaluable before, during and after the training course. The content of the course was spot on. As a newbie I found it extremely informative, telling me what, in their experience works, and just as importantly, what is doesn’t or is unnecessary. The enthusiam of Mike and Stuart is very contagious and I came away from the course keen to get started. Within a few days I had my first job booked, and several leads that I am now following up. The venue was great too, and the food was excellent. All in all, a very useful, informative and enjoyable day. Thanks The venue was first rate too.
We came away from the course full of inspiration and brimming with ideas. It’s all those little details that you can’t imagine until you do your own first event. Mike and Stuart can save you all those costly little mistakes right from the beginning. How to talk to your client in the correct way so that you don’t do yourself out of money. It all sounds so perfectly obvious when Mike and Stuart tell you this stuff but it’s things we would never have thought of! We liked the informal way the course was presented with lots of laughs which always makes learning much more fun and enjoyable. The venue is superb. Fantastic hotel rooms, a spacious refreshment area and the food was superb (being vegetarians its not often we get to say that!). There was no hard selling (although reasonably enough Stuart did point out the benefits of buing equipment through them). The marketing lady (Debbie?) was very good although we would have liked a little more of her time.[Editor: Marketing is a big subject and so we will be introducing a full one day course to run the day after the Event Photography Course from March 08] Both Mike and Stuart thoroughly know their stuff, are approachable and friendly and you leave feeling as though they are friends that you can call on for advice. This course is a must for anyone taking up event photography. I do a lot of commercial/Portrait/Wedding and some event photography, but with no onsite printing. But, for 2008 I decided to drop wedding photography and push into full blown Event photography. The style and delivey of the course was just right, with Stuart and Mike giving all the class some really useful advise on Marketing and sales, and talked through and showed us some of the best equipment you can use on the market today plus much, much more. It was aimed at all levels from someone wanting to try out event photography to someone who wants to be totally wireless and have printers everywhere. I am now looking forwards to my first assignement with confidence.
The best thing i ever did in a long time was spend the last bit of wedding photography profit on a whirlwind adventure down to Southampton. To meet a guy about to have a hip op and another guy who I did not know very well, but had heard he was knowledgable. Obviously these two are effectionately known as, Smith and Jones….No, Mike and Stuart. I stayed the night over before the course waking up fresh. The course flew by, we stayed late on into the evening asking questions and learning alot about this world of events Photography. I came away worried, because I thought to myself, Tim you know the way they talk means that this is something that actually you are going to have to go all out on, or just not bother. I have to say that this basically meant that there was no such thing as getting away with a printer and having no background system. Or having no wireless, just download by card. Or having masking tape instead of Hazard tape. So I bit the bullet and phoned stuart up thinking did he mean it when he said’ just call’ Twpo hours later, I had not bought anyhting from them. Stuart spoke to me with enthusiasm the whole way through. The best thing he did was as follows. I was worried because I thought I don’t want to buy the kit knowing I do not have work for it to do. So I told him what I had been organising with a local venue and he basically gave me the advice and confidence to secure work. I secured 5 jobs with his help, then bought a Citizen Dye Sub. I then asked him to do his worst and send me a list of everyhting he had mentioned at the training day that he would consider totally essential, down to extra pair of underpants for the tough times. Soem of the stuff on the list seemed mad, extra this, pieces of that. It must have taken him a while because it seemes tailored to the kit I was using and the jobs I had described. So I then secured the jobs and the venue were well impressed. I bought the wireless. I could not stretch to the IT5000 but was still happy. So the first event, sold 5 photographs, the 2nd sold 6 photographs, the 3rd got kicked out becuase the venue had not realised that the event was someone elses who had their own events photographer. He was nasty and I was scared, very scared. I still came back the next night, and sold 50 photographs, Then the next week sold 60+ then came to the last evening and sold 85 photographs. Was it worth it, well even when I sold 5 people said it was the best photograph they had had taken of them in a long time, the venue said that people never stopped talking about the prints. I also had the pleasure of taking a coupel of 3 generation family portraits that people said they woudl never have had done. I am chuffed. Icing on the cake is that yeah I had some high learning curves. But now have a great opportunity to do in excess of 14 proms, around 2000 sales in the summer. I would say that there is some truth in the line ‘life is like a box of chocolates’ But I would say in event photography it’s a case of, you never get out what you haev not put in. I still live afraid at times and I think that’s great. What you will get with System Insight is ‘Insight’ ‘Advice’ and friendship. I sincerely hope that after the Summer is over and I have managed with the support of system Insight to secure the proms, to return to New Place where they hold the training day with my little girl and my wife, for a short break to recover. I know it will not always be smooth, but I am humble and will take advice and I hope other will benefit from this review. Last but not least, Thankyou Stuart, Mike, Simon and Ryan.
The course course was well structured and very informative. It provided me with a host of new ideas and marketing techniques that will be implemented in the coming year. The day after the course we booked in 4 new events!!. If you attend the course and expect things will happen, they will not. It requires a lot of work, persistence and patience to get results. Those who sit back will fall at the first fence. The delegates in our group of circa 12 people were from a varied background. Some professionals and others just starting up. I believe the balance of the course worked well for all delegates. In particular it was very useful to listen to other peoples experiences. I have been doing event photography for a few years now, getting varied results. Stuart gave me a few pre course tips and we used them at a small event. Our expected takings on the night doubled. Please note Stuart has not paid me for this review, well not yet anyway. The only slightly negative side of a very good course was that I thought there was a little too much anecdotal information which seemed to slow the progression down. However, I would highly recommend this course to anyone who has desire to earn good money without sacrificing professional quality photographs.
We have previously touched upon event photography about two years ago and literally dived feet first into it learning as we went along. A lot of the early things on the course reaffirmed what we already knew. However, as the fun light hearted day progressed we had a eureka moment as it all tied together and educated us on loads of little tips that make a HUGE difference!! One specific tip (that almost makes you feel stupid for not thinking of it) that we tried at an event aided us to take over £350 for 4 hours work! We nearly didn’t go to this event as we thought the numbers were low and that it would have been a waste of time……wrong!! The entire course was enjoyable, held in a spectacular location with really nice food. For any one who hasn’t done event photography before this course will jump you 6 months to a year ahead, cutting out the mistakes commonly made when you first start out. For anyone who has experience doing event photography there is loads of information and tips that will help you enhance and maximise sales / systems at events!!
Mike and Stuart invest a lot of their real life experience in the course … and it shows! They enliven the day with a lot of humour and practical illustrations. I learned a lot from the day and have been encouraged to give event photography a go.
I found the course extremely worthwhile. I enjoyed all of the day, especially meeting the team. I would have liked to have started earlier and perhaps got to the nitty gritty before lunch, however everyone’s experiences within the photographic industry are very valuable and an integral part of the course. A beginners guide would have been a better title as much of the ground covered was very basic and therefore of little use to anyone who has actually run events and wanted to know how to do them better and make more profit. The timekeeping and structure of the course was poor with too many “I remember…” anecdotes and too little actual content to be worthwhile. Having an informal training course with banter between the presenters is fine but this one went too far over the line into unstuctured discussions, repetition of material, lack of flow & signposting. Spending time on the Photobus before covering workflow meant it all had to be explained twice. I’m sure the presenters know their stuff as practictioners but as trainers they could learn a few things from having the course reviewed and assessed by a professional trainer. If it were a £50 half day course covering the same material put on by the SWPP I would have felt it was OK. Having taken a full day out and spent £250 I expected better from System Insight and so was disappointed by the day. [Editor: I guess that everyone has different expectations from a course and I’m sorry that you didn’t feel the course worthwhile. We have run over 15 previous courses and this is the first negative comment we have received. As for the comments about our training style, I think that a previous delegates comments (see below) speak for themselves. “Rex Witts: As someone who observes teaching and learning for a living, I am always sceptical of short courses. How wrong could I be! This one day course run by Stuart & Mike far exceeded all my expectations.”. We always strive to provide the highest standards and quality at all time and our course is always aimed at small numbers to encorage participation which we find helps delegates get the best out of the course.]
The course run by Mike and Stuart in a friendly and relaxed manner gives you a complete overview of all you need to know about event photography. With the knowledge that you gain from the day most of the mistakes you may have made will be banished to the bin. Although all the equipment is there for you to see and use there is no selling even though I wanted to take the photo bus home!! Since attending the training course I’ve now got 15 bookings at a local hotel for all their Christmas parties which are being held there. The first event (which wasn’t a Christmas Party) has just taken place and I made just short of £500 for a few hours enjoyable work. All I needed to purchase was the printer, consumables and a few other items and I was away. The person who organised the event even visited me the following day to view all the pictures taken and ordered another 10!!

A very enjoyable training day. Both Mike and Stuart gave away all of their secrets in how to get work and make a successful business out of Event Photography. Contrary to comments I had read, probably from people who had not been on the course, it is just a glorified sales day, couldn’t have been further from the truth. Equipment was discussed of course, and it was mentioned that System Insight could provide it. The only selling done on the day was to convince all of the delegates that they could all make successful Event Photographers. All the information was there for the taking, it is just up to the individual to get out there and do it! A Big Thanks to both Mike and Stuart for a great day!
A day that can be best described as ‘an audience with the Two Ronnies’ (only in this case Mike & Stuart). Not only was it fun but very informative. An excellent combination of audience participation and information flow. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to enter this line of business.
I’d been keen to venture into the world of Event Photography but was just so unsure how to go about it. My thanks to Mike, Stuart and a class room full of people with a variety of photography experience (or none at all) who helped me decide what I need to do to turn a hobby into something even more rewarding – and make money!!
This is one of the best courses that I have been on for quite a while. Stuart and Mike are excellent and full of experience that they are more than happy to share with you. Many of the courses that I have been on before are about how to take that perfect photo this one is different, it’s about how to make money with the least amount of effort. If you want a course to teach you how to take a perfect photo then this isn’t for you but if you want to make a lot of cash with your camera then I would recommend this to anyone even if you aren’t a photographer. Overall the course was light-hearted with a double act Laurel and Hardy (Mike & Stuart) Food was excellent.

Mike and Stuart run a course which is fun and informal. Their good humour keeps you entertained all day, meaning that all the delegates remain alert – no one dozing off in the corner. They inspire you to think about the larger picture (no pun intended) and the potential in jobs that might otherwise have been over looked. They are very candid and helpful with their advice, with no big sell which makes a pleasant change. Thanks for a very helpful day
An excellent presentation from those who have seen it, done and got the T-shirt. My fears of this unfamiliar territory are completely expelled and I now have the confidence to buy the kit and start earning. Mike and Stuart’s enthusiam and endless stream of anecdotes ensured that there was never a dull moment. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them on the X Factor!
This course provided an amature like myself with a path to take a hobbie into a viable business. The emphasis was on the business side with money making the main theme. Mike and Stuart managed to fill a whole day, and some of the evening with all the ingreadients required to make a good course: a good presentation, demonstrations of equipment, decent coffee, humour and a good lunch. All of us enjoyed it, ask the people in the next room about the laughing.
Very good. This training day had all the elements for success. Beautiful venue, great lunch and genuine people who are obviously successful in shooting events. I feel the course will help me avoid many pitfalls and has given me some excellent tips for success. The course isn’t cheap, but if your serious about getting it right first time it is definitely worth the money(was alot of fun also).
I had been thinking of expanding my business in this direction for a while. The course provided the information that has enabled me to do this. It seems to me that the key ingredient for success in this industry is to have the right workflow for the right job, and I left the course with a workflow to suit most situations. I have phoned System Insight several times since the course and found them extremely helpful and knowledgable. In business it is critical to deal with suppliers on whom you can rely to back you up and support you in your goals, I believe that System Insight is one of these.

Having now started to enter the world of event photography it has come as huge relief to be able to attend such a course as yours and learn the necessary requirements. As with many courses joining like minded photographers provides a forum for discussing the strengths and weaknesses’s of such an interesting business venture.The format you outlined was both concise and practical and interjected with a lot of humour; your course helped guide me through any of the possible pifalls. As ever, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and at one of my events, shortly after the course, I tentatively assembled my printers and laptop.Little detail such as putting the photos in clear plastic bags for everyone to see, coupled with all the wealth of information gathered from your course helped me to promote my service and suddenly, to my relief and surprise, we were inundated with people all wanting their photo and more importantly they were placing orders. I think your course provides excellent value for money and was a very good opportunity to sit back and learn from two extremely knowlegeable people about this subject The only added suggestion that I would make is coming up up with a cheap way of queue control in a basic kit form to keep my assistant fighting off large numbers of people and to mantain his stress levels

I’m relatively experienced in outdoor event photography but was keen to explore the possibilities of diversification into indoor party & black tide events. I received a lot of valuable unbiased advice from Mike over the phone (having called him as a direct result of a review like this one) I took the plunge and bought lights , studio background, radio triggers etc and Mike even came all the way down from Hedge End one night to show me how to use them ! … I had no hesitation therefore in enrolling on the next available seminar. Stuart & Mike’s presentation is designed to ensure that everyone immediately feels involved irrespective of their background and inevitably one persons superior marketing skills nicely compliments someone else’s experience as a ‘traditional photographer’ ensuring everyone comes away bursting with food for thought. Highly recommended if you have the drive and self discipline to get out there and earn good money
I’ve just returned home from the same training day as Trevor ‘clickprintphotos’ Miller (12th March 2007) and read his review to find, he’s said it all. With over 30 years in-and-out of professional photography I recently launched out on my own, only to find that the business I thought I knew inside out – had been turned inside out! Happily, gone is much of the pretentious nonsense that used to surround ‘professional’ photography and this new approach was well reflected in Stuart and Mikes fresh approach to the business of Event Photography. The focus of the day was clearly on getting the business, delivering ‘customer focused’ business, making a profit and moving on. Hosted at an idyllic conference hotel, the day was packed with useful and valuable information, lightened with amusing and informative anecdotes and supplemented with the shared experience of everyone involved. Have spent some of my career as a trainer and leading class room groups, I go into training courses with a slightly different attitude to some delegates and it takes much more to impress me. The course really did impress, and exceed all my expectations. For me the content of the course was well delivered and most importantly not rushed, if an area needed to be covered in greater detail, then that is what happened. The knowledge and experience passed on to the delegates will stand all of us in good stead as we make our mark in the event photography business. I spend large parts of the day noting ideas and websites that both Stuart and Mike had used and or experienced. My wife Briony (the photographer) joined me on the course and we both took a great deal away from the course. We had differing objectives to cover, me sales and marketing and Briony the imaging and workflow side, both were covered very well. We now look forward to booking events and looking at event areas that neither had considered Well done

This was a great day training with Mike and Stuart,without all the pompous grand, i’m so self-importance crap. To be honest having met these guys before I wasn’t expecting that anyway. I would have given a 5 star rating but there was no wine with lunch,[Editor: We wanted you sober for the afternoon!] but the food was nice. Now down to business, as i’m new to the event photography business it was fantastic to get straight answers to my questions from people who have been in the front line for years, and willing to share their expertise and knowledge. Learning in such a relax manor just means that i’ll take away and retain more of the day. The beauty about a day like this is the other delegates who pipe up and throw in little gems of ideas, my note-pad is full of things that I’ll claim as my own ha ha ha. All the kit that they had on show was good too, you had time to play,experiment, take a few pics and print to see the final result, you’ll go away knowing what you need to get your business going. All in all a nice informative day, i’ll recommend it, but who the hell i’m i away.(just a another desperate photograph looking to make a quick buck) Thanks guys pass some work my way and i’ll buy you a beer next time your’re in town. I retired last year from the NHS and have been thinking about part-time self-employment, preferably related to photography, my hobby of the last 45 years. Event photography appeared to fit the bill. I have most of the equipment needed, except a high-speed dye sub printer, and responsibility does not extend beyond the occasion, unlike, say, wedding photography (or, indeed, working for the NHS). There is a comprehensive demonstration of the printing options available, but absolutely no sales pressure. As a Senior Civil Service Photographer I’m, very strictly speaking, not supposed to be seen to endorse products / courses etc. This was a great course packed full of real-life information which would be of great use to anyone thinking of doing some Event Photography. It was interesting and the informal / friendly delivery from both Mike and Stuart made the whole day fun. I was concerned that it might be used as an opportunity to simply sell dye sub printers; this wasn’t the case. Advice on printers was available as expected, but really this was not what the course was all about. The hotel where the course was held was splendid and the lunchtime buffet lunch equally impressive!
I have recently attended the “Event Photography Training Day” hosted by System Insight. The day was highly informative, full of practical hints and tips. A big plus for me was the relaxed way the training was conducted. Delegates were encouraged to participate and ask questions at all times. Stuart and Mike make a great double act as course trainers too! Excellent – Recommended to anyone serious about event photography!! A+++
I have been photographing weddings for about 15 years on a semi-pro basis and have often wondered how I could leverage more business from these hard earned jobs. I had considered staying on at night to photograph guests (after all they are in their Sunday best and would love to have a decent picture of themselves and partners), but didn’t know where to start. After talking to Mike I realised a days training would be the way to see if it was for me, or not. Mike & Stuart did a great job in explaining all the do’s and dont’s and demonstating all the kit needed to make it happen. Since the course I have thought of a number of other applications where event photography can be used. I am about to order a printer and supplies and get cracking…..can’t wait! Thanks again Stuart and Mike, no doubt I’ll be calling soon to gleen advice.
As an experienced portrait photographer, I had been thinking of trying to get into event photography for a while before discovering Mike and Stuart’s course, but I didn’t really know where to begin. I wasn’t looking for a course that aimed to teach me how to take studio portraits, as I already knew how to do that. What I wanted was to learn about event workflow, marketing my event services, what equipment to choose and how to use it. The course did not disappoint. The practical content was supplemented with lively discussion and colourful real-life anecdotes, which can only come from people like Mike and Stuart with their vast experience of event photography. It was definitely worth the trip over from Belgium. I would wholeheartedly recommend the course to anyone wishing to learn the practical aspects of setting up as an event photographer. I now feel ready to tackle my first real event job with confidence.
Was it time well spent? Will it increase my business income? Yes and yes ……… In addition to the cost of the course itself I had two flights and two nights hotel accomodation to pay for. A small investment compared to the potential I now posess to increase profits and efficiency. Lets be clear; Stuart and Mike are not running a charitable organisation. They will make more money from me because I am now making more money for myself; win win. What would I do differently? For 5 Stars hold a two day course. Theory then hands on for two days would be a major benefit to anyone serious about making a profitable business out of event photography.
Overall I thought the course was well worth the day, although if I had to make a criticism it would be that there was little in the way of tips to get the best photographs at an event. [Editor: The course is not so much about photography but about equipment, marketing and workflow. We have assumed the delegates are comfortable with posing /location etc and do not attempt to teach photographic skills, however we may cover this in a new two day course in the new year.] Having said that, that could just be because of my lack of experience I this area. I found the day informative and helpful in all other respects.
As someone who observes teaching and learning for a living, I am always sceptical of short courses. How wrong could I be! This one day course run by Stuart & Mike far exceeded all my expectations. I have been running an event photography business with my partner for 4 months now. Having purchased a Mitsubishi printer from System Insight and hired extra cameras we thought this course would interesting. It was not only very interesting; it opened up business avenues that we would never have thought of. Basically the information gained from the day has transformed our thinking and given even more inspiration to develop further. The course was very informative and honest in providing the starting tools to begin event photography. The level of individual help was outstanding in respect of receiving practical advice based on real and extensive experience. I left the course feeling I was no longer alone in a new venture and could pick up the phone and obtain guidance in the future. I would have rated five stars if the opportunity to network with previous and future course members had been built into the course. I think everyone I spoke to on the day would have found that useful. Well done Stuart and Mike thanks for being so approachable ……..and fun!
A very interesting and thought provoking day. Forget about photography and cameras etc we all know about them or should do if we call ourselves professionals. The best part of the day was a simple maths lesson….so simple you wonder why nobody ever told you before. Put simply this was an explantion on how to make money which at the end of the day is what we all need to do to stay in business whatever our field or expertise.
Setting up in business with a colleague we had already photographed our first event, a football tournament, before I attended the course. We had no doubts about the quality of our photography but our work flow & organisation was a major problem. We are now so much confident about the practical aspects of the business and the course is to thank for that. The overview of the business was excellent but it was some of the small things that were brought up that I’m sure are the difference between a business succeeding or not. Stuart & Mike and the rest of the team obviously love the business and are happy to talk ‘events’ all day long, during tea breaks, the lunch break and well after the course ended. The other people attending the course came from various walks of life and it was great to meet a like-minded bunch of people and share their thoughts and aspirations. Overall definitely ‘a day well spent!’
I can honestly say that without asking every single one of my questions was answered during the day. The guys were honest and down to earth – no pretentiousness! I have saved a lot of money, time and worry by attending and I am so excited about my first ‘event’ in July. The team are there for further support, just pick up the phone and they can’t wait to help – with ANYTHING, amazing! Don’t pass this opportunity over the best money I have spent so far on any of my training!
I booked my space on the course only a week before it was scheduled whilst i was looking into dye sub printers for equestrian event photography. I came across the SI website and decided the course would be a good idea as i really didn’t have much of an clue as to what i was after! Being one of two women on the course and youngest person at the grand old age of 22 was initially quite daunting, however this was put at ease straight away my Mike, Stuart and all of the other delegates who were all very friendly, funny and nautical ;)! I attended the course very much set in equestrian frame of mind which was covered in much detail. However it also opened my eyes to many more money making opportunities! The course is labelled “event photography for profit” and with Mike and Stuarts many stories you can really see how it can work! The printing systems that were on display were more than impressive. Especially the Click system, of which i am now a proud owner!! Heres to making some money, and to Stuart and Mike for showing me how! I would recommend the course to anyone with an interest in event photography but also photography in general! Thanks Mike and Stuart! I will be in touch soon no doubt with many questions i am sure!
Being a Nikon user all my life the Canon bashing was not a problem! The course was relaxed & well informed. Being an Ex Cruise Ship Photographer the work flow systems are all but the same, but oh how technology has pushed it’s way forward & for the best! I would say to anyone thinking about going into this business & think they know everything, just stop for a second & take the time to go on this course. It is clear that both Mike & Stu have a wealth of experience in this field & it is good to learn the pit falls off of them than feel them hit your wallet by not going! I had a budget prior to going on this course on things to purchase & expected it to rise! However The course has helped me to cut my budget instead, you will be suprised to learn how little you will need to set up. Good location, informal course & not one hard sell throughout the day. I will be phoning Monday to purchase & feel a lot happier to be dealing with a proffessional & friendly company. Our course did run on, but glad it did i left about 7.00pm & thank you to Mike & Stu for the extra time.
Mike and Stuart gave a well rehearsed polished performance with a number of laughs thrown in.The morning gave little information,questions being diverted to the afternoon.There where some nuggets of information in the afternoon but no more than can be cleaned from their own and others websites.More practical aspects and demonstrations where few and the documentation poor given the high cost of the course. We make no secret that the course is not a practical photography course but one in which the business and workflow side of Event Photography are comprehensively illustrated.]
Well presented fun and informative course. Full of great ways to improve your work flow and increase sales. I found Stuart and Mike very helpful and willing to share their knowledge and experience. Nice venue as well, worth the long journey.
Following a 7 hour car drive and a comfy night in the hotel we arrived early for this training course. Right from the start it was entertaining and very informative. Both Mike and Stuart are very happy to share their real life experiences of event photography! The day was very well structured and made it easy to understand how it should be done to guarantee success. When it was over (after 18:30) my wife and I were full of ideas on what was needed to build our business to include working our own events. We feel it was money well spent and staying 2 nights in the event location hotel only added to the experience. Thanks to Mike, Stuart and Cath.

…well they do, through System Insight. Yes it’s true System Insight truly are the masters when it comes to everything to do with this lucrative genre of photography. The course itself is excellent and whether your a novice or more experienced ‘eventer’ there is plenty here for you. Lots of the tips will increase your profits at the very next job you do. As Stuart says ‘it’s shimples’. Shimples? Yes! Obvious? Not always. I’ve attended many photography courses over the years but this is the first to get me a job referral within 4 days which will easily pay for the course and more. Does it get any better than that? I very much doubt it. So all you need is this course and a bit of personal motivation and you can make more profit from your photography.Thanks to Stuart, Mike and Kath. The start of a long and profitable business relationship for us both, I’m sure.

Its noteworthy to commend the duo of Stuart Morley and Mike Orr, and very fulfilling to personally experience them ‘effortlessly’giving a really deep and systemic insight into this newly coined art; ‘Event Photography’. For a newcomer into the field, the training offers intrinsic information that will ensure immediate success right from the beginning……while for the old practitioner it offers a structured (with flexible application possibilities) approach that will easily propel to further success…..all in a very relaxing and humour filled environment.
Have I got the last jibe in, Mike? Really enjoyed the course. Very informative and straight to the point. This is NOT a photography course so don’t expect an explanation on the difference between an F-stop and a bus stop, especially from Stuart! If events are what you want to get involved in, then you HAVE to do this course. Period! Thanks
When I signed up for this course, I knew it would cover ground that I was already familiar with and that was fine. I really wanted to meet the people from System Insight to decide whether to buy my equipment from them or a competitor. I was particularly interested in what I might expect to get when spending extra on the professional package. I did come away with some new ideas but most of all I gained the impression that Mike and Stuart are helpful and supportive and would be good people to work with. They advised us to leave a positive impression after each event and they did this themselves. I particularly liked the lack of hard sell.
Excellent organisation, structure, content and delivery. No hard sell, just straightforward honest advice and instruction coupled with entertaining stories to drive the message home. I would recommend this to any aspiring event photographer.
This was the most informative and interesting course I have been on. It’s one thing to do something, and quite another to do something well. Mike and Stuart gave the information to be able to do event photography well. I would completely recommend this course to anyone who is currently involved in event photography or is thinking about it. It’s an investment.
If you want to avoid the pit falls book this course. If Stuart’s countless stories of his and Mike’s experience could be put into bottles they would sell crate loads. Inspiring and practical I would suggest before you do anything in event photography book this course. Stuart’s merciless ribbing of Mike and his undisputed talent as a photographer go to make this as entertaining as it is informative.
I attended this course, expecting it to be good based on the previous reviews. I wasn’t disappointed. The pace and content was just right and I left with all the building blocks. Now it’s up to me!
If you are thinking of photographing an event for the first time, then book this course, otherwise you will lose money.These guys have been in the business so long, they know all the pitfalls and will pass on to you, years of experience, this course is not about selling you printers ect. its about giving you an insight into event photography.

I think by now it is acknowledged that this is a fun and informative course to do, but I think the fact that bearing in mind it is run by the company who can sell you Events equipment, both Stuart and Mike actively distance themselves away from it being a sales pitch. It really is as good as the other review suggest and I can’t wait to get on with the skills that I was taught in this fantastic venue. Any day now and a phone call will be made to buy my first printer!!!!
I’d known of System Insight for over a year but an email from them offering their Event Photography for Profit course, coinciding with 2 cancelled meetings, prompted me to attend last Monday’s training day. I must confess I expected the usual 20 percent information and 80 percent sales pitch by the company – how wrong could I be? From the outset Mike and Stuart provided an informative, entertaining and polished double act offering anyone prepared to listen, the key to a profitable photographic business. The ethos of giving the customer what they want and expect, is alien to so many businesses, but not to these characters. Providing the instant gratification of a photographic quality print to take home is not new; enabling it in such a slick efficient and profitable way makes all the difference. Thanks for a great day, in a superb venue with fantastic food. Just don’t tell too many people!!
After being asked to cover an event I set about researching what equipment would be needed. I contacted System Insight in search of information, to find they were running a training course the following Monday, so promptly signed up. One of my better decisions. Stuart and Mike presented a good well structured course covering all aspects of event photography, but it doesn’t end there. The course identifies pitfalls and solutions, equipment options from the bare minimum to the ultimate event solution. I am so pleased I attended the course before the event, as armed with my newly acquired knowledge, I averted a possible disaster. Stuart gave me first class advice when I had the opportunity to purchase second hand equipment, and System Insight upgraded the equipment prior to the first event, (special thanks to Steve, absolute genius with this stuff). The first event went well because of what I learned on the course, and this also helped to identify the improvements to the equipment for the next event (another couple of calls to Steve and it is all sorted and much improved, thanks again Steve). The System Insight team are not just a supplier, but a total solution and I cannot recommend them enough. Trust me you can save the cost of the course on your first event just from not making the mistakes that would have been made without the knowledge.
Thought we would drop you a line about the event we did last weekend. The first since doing the training on 10 May 2010 and the first with the new Click Lite system. First, following on from your training we took on board everything you had said on top of what we were already doing. This event was a poor seller last year, however a culmination of the new equipment, your advice, our experience over the past 12 months and a celebrity or two meant a improved return this year of 1,200 % which is superb. We also picked up two more jobs for another event which should realise us a exceptional return for a couple or three hours work. Second, at the dinner function on Saturday night, the Click Lite equipment was the talk of the function, apparently more so than the football they were watching. They were amazed that they could have their photography taken with the celebs and within seconds have it signed as a memento. It really has gone down a storm ! Third, because of this event and our approach, we have received an invite to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil from Carlos Alberto no less. We are going to be dining out on this for sometime. Thanks to you and Mike for your input and continuing support over the phone.

Well how can I start it was a wonderful day. The venue both hotel (discounted rooms arranged by System insight!) and conference facilities were great; the De Vere Hotel is set in some wonderful grounds with modern conference facilities. Our tutors Stuart Morley from Systeminsight and Photographer Mike Orr were great to listen to giving clear concise information on the subject (all areas) of Event Photography. Both have a great sense of humour and numerous anecdotes which made information input easy and memorable. The course was well laid out and covered every conceivable aspect of the subject and had good crib sheet notes. At no time was there any sales pitch and in discussion with Stuart I was guided away from items I was considering with very good explanations of how to do it better. The lunch was excellent and the coffee flowed freely. Nothing seemed too much trouble for either Stuart or Mike (despite being in pain from a back injury). The day was also good for exchanging views between the delegates who ranged in experience from beginner to extremely knowledgeable pros with years of experience. I collected my Click system and printer after the day and opened it this morning. I had the system up and running from the box in about 35 minutes but had to go and take a few jpegs in the garden to load (easy) and print. The process is easy and once I am more familiar with the system will be able to do it even faster. The printed results (flowers, leaves and the cat!) were great good colour and saturation. I fully recommend SystenInsight to any budding event photographers. Thank you Stuart and Mike for a great day
I am often a little sceptical about courses but I found this System Insight day helpful, interesting, informative and honest. Mike and Stuart were approachable, friendly and answered anything you can throw at them. They are clearly both experienced and knowledgeable. Although there was a lot to fit in within a day, they did not rush us and would have stayed late into the evening answering our questions and chatting if needed! And we still had time for a decent lunch in-between. I have subsequently phoned and emailed Mike and System Insight since the course and found everyone I have dealt with to be helpful, friendly and happy to offer free advice.
The course was packed with information to enable me to go out there and cover events with confidence. Minimal on the technical side, but I think that’s a good thing. A full day of useful information, NOT a glorified sales pitch for the latest printer. Recommended.
If you have any interest in being your own boss ,making money and don’t mind putting in the hours; you should definately come on one of System Insights courses. The day is run informally but covers all relevant topics and you should leave at the end of the day wishing that you had seen the light earlier. Mike and Stuart will tell you everything you could possible need to know.
THIS IS A MUST – If you are thinking of getting into Event Photography or are already an Event Photographer I would highly commend this course. It tells you what you need to do to succeed; equipment, workflow, printing solutions through to sales and marketing. Stuart & Mike made the day informal and highly professional and were willing at every stage to listen to comments and offer practical and straightforward advice solutions to the problems and issues that always come up doing Event Photography. They are passionate about their business and I came away buzzing and enthusiastic about implementing new ideas and streamlining my business. Stuart and Mike make a great double act and I found the course both entertaining and extremely useful. It has confirmed some of the research I had done and given me plenty more to think about to ‘spice up’ our events. I am a portrait photographer, The hours I was spending in front of the computer, tweaking images, were beginning to take over my life and was sucking the fun out of my business. I enjoy taking photographs and interacting with people so event photography ticked all my boxes – the making money bit was a revelation! I attended the course, enlisted a partner (I definately took on board that taking the pictures is only 20% of the venture) and we literally are having the time of our lives. Our first job we took £400 – 1 hours work. Our next £1,200…….. Neither of us are very technical so the advice, support & patience!!! shown us by the System Insight Team has been amazing – above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you Stuart and Mike for an excellent days training! I had just done my first Event a couple of days before using the kit I brought from Systems Insight. Every pitfall or possible mistake they mentioned was a mistake I had already made! I wish I’d gone on the course before taking on the event as I am sure we would doubled or even trebled what we took that first night:) I’ve since attended more events and got a website up at www.fullframeevents.co.uk as suggested and am using all the extremely useful workflow and photography tips. I wish I’d stayed for the Green Screen course as well. It was useful to see all the other kit working and I’ve also now gone wireless as shown on the course, which really helps. I’ll be buying another printer shortly and wouldn’t go to anyone else! The hotel was lovely by the way.
Thanks to Mike and Stuart for an interesting, entertaining insight into event photography. I’ve been thinking – and now am thinking more seriously – about adding events to what I already offer, and the course provided me with some very useful don’ts as well as dos. I liked the informal approach, which allowed for other delegates to chip in with their own experiences. Possibly Mike and Stuart are a little too good natured though as some of this needed snaffling to allow the primary purposes of the course to continue. Personally, the only thing I felt missing was a bit more detail about the printers. I’m not the most technically gifted in the world and it’d been useful for me to come away feeling like I could pick up one of the machines on display, plug it in, set up my camera equipment, and start selling pictures… This however is meant as a minor criticism for what overall was a very informative day (nor do I know how it could be incorporated into an already packed day). The feeling I came away with was that, in the likely event that I do invest in one of their systems, they’ll be on hand to guide me through it. I’m sure we’ll be speaking again in ’10. It has been a few weeks since I attended the ‘Event Photography Training Course’. I was impressed on the day with the professionalism and enthusiasm with which the course was both compiled and presented. Having had time now to consolidate the content of the course, I can see the degree to which it is positively influencing the course of my fledgling business. I have implemented several ideas of which I had not been previously aware and would highly recommend that anyone else finding their way into this business attends a similar course – There is something to be learned for everyone. Many thanks to both Stuart & Mike, I look forward to attending other seminars in the New Year.
I didn’t know what to expect from the training day, but was most impressed by the presentation & depth of detail presented by Mike & Stuart, not to mention the amazing kit available. I’d recommend this course to anyone interested in Event Photography, it has given me a much clearer view of the possibilities. Thanks chaps.
I discovered event photography somewhat by accident and decided to have a closer look. I booked on the System Insight course to get a better idea of what its all about. I can only describe the course and Mike and Stuart as BRILLIANT ! Good honest down to earth help and advice in a very enjoyable atmosphere. Stop thinking about it do it you will have no regrets.
Slightly wary at paying £200+ to be taught how to make money, I attended. A customer asked about Event Photography, so I though I’d better find out. I’m glad I did. At the end of the day I left filled with knowledge, enthusiasm and ideas. You’re probably a photographer, you need to meet Stuart, he’ll tell you how to sell photographs, and Mike will tell you how good selling photographs is. No bias toward printer manufacturer, and refreshingly honest advice. This is a chance to learn what mistakes NOT to make. I will definitely keep in contact with System Insight, and I’m buying my first dye-sub next week. OR: Don’t you worry about event photography, it’s not for you. Keep doing weddings. Forget you ever heard of System Insight.. 😉
Having been a wedding & portrait photographer for the last twenty years I decided I wanted to expand my business and try some event photography.I booked this coarse and boy am I glad I did very imformative oh and imformal mot to mention highly entertaining,would really recomend it Thanks Guys
Having spent many years doing general and wedding photography I decided to have a look at the events side of the industry. After doing some initial research into this side of the industry, I thought that if I was going to be serious about working in this field it would be best to gain as much knowledge as possible to ensure that I would get the maximum out of it. All I can really say is that both Mike Orr and Stuart Morley are two first class friendly professional guy’s with a wealth of knowledge in this field. The contents of this course is excellent, and the way they pass the knowledge on will keep you interested all the way through. If you want to get into this area, do the course. It would be the best training investment you could make. Their advice will help to increase you sales in events without a doubt. Thanks Mike and Stu for a first class day. Kevin
Getting up at 5.00am is not my favourite pastime, driving for nearly 3 hours on top of this does not add up to being bright eyed and alert after a day of training on dye sub printers, sales and marketing, workflow and so much else my brain hurt! At 5pm that day, the fact that I can say I was still keen says much about the presentation skills of Mike and Stuart. No question was too trivial or too complicated for them, (just don’t get Stuart started on generators!) At first the fee for the day may seem expensive, I believe that I will get this back in my first month of trading. Many thanks guys
I attended the course on 7th September, and was impressed with the structure and delivery of the course. Mike & Stuart are both experienced and professional in their field, but have that added skill of being able to communicate the information in a clear and effective manner. The course was conducted in a fun environment, which made the learning very enjoyable. Being new to event photography, this course has addressed a lot of questions I had been asking myself, and provided so much more!!!. I do feel a lot clearer regarding the workflow as well as a marketing strategy to develop further business. If anyone is serious about getting involved with event photography, this course is not an option, its a necessity!!! I pulled myself from my sick bed to attend the course and I am so pleased that I did. As a keen amateur, with photography occasionally bringing in some funds, I was interested in event photography – but how do you start? EASY, GO ON THIS COURSE !! Perhaps you could work out quite a bit of what Stuart and Mike put across for yourself, but why cock it up for 12 months while you learn (and lose money on potential sales or paying too much commission in the meantime) when these guys share with you their success (and occasional failure, so you don’t repeat them yourself)built up over years of doing events. Knowing how to take pictures is a minor part of event photography, I now know enough about the rest to give it a go. I went for the Click system so that the whole onsite printing will look professional, using my kids to enquire about Proms and also looking at School photography (the local guy has just retired at short notice, leaving several schools needing someone) If I had left the course another month….. Go on, do the course….you know you want to! Thanks Stuart and Mike (they have not paid me for this review – but if they want to, my address is XXXXX)
As a fairly experienced photographer and IT man I wondered if I would get value for money . . . I need not have worried; the course provided a solid framework for my somewhat diffuse ideas, was entertaining, but above all, very informative. I found the dozens of practical examples/case studies/printer,c camera & wi-fi demos extremely valuable and many provided much inspiration. After a couple of days carefully reviewing my pages of notes, I left having enjoyed a stimulating day and full of enthusiasm for the future. Today I settled on a Hi_Ti P510 (& was offered introductory discount even though I didn’t have a print to trad-in!)and am now trawling the locality for suitable events including exploring all local Christmas grottos.. Carlsberg don’t do sales seminars, but… This has been the only seminar in 40 years that kept me interested all day and drove my enthusiasm so hard. I was awake ALL night going over the possibilities and potential of what I had heard on the course. Stuart and Mike are one of showbusinesses great double acts. Not to be missed.
Interesting course – a good mix of technology and useful practical advice – and i have been in the game for 20 years!
The course was very imformative and Stuart and Mike both know what they are talking about. The course was well worth the money and I can see myself making a lot of money from the advice I received. If you want a way to basically print money, then go on the course, you will not be disapointed
I attended this course on the Monday. By Tuesday evening I was booked for a major event in Manchester and by Friday I had the Christmas season at a city centre hotel wrapped up. Well worth the money. Mike at Stuart are great and know what they are talking about.

Mike Orr and Stuart Morley are two very nice and very professional guys. Between them they have a wealth of photography and business experience, and have made big in-roads in the event photography business. OK I am only an amateur snapper looking for a second income or possible career change, but I have been on lots of courses, and this one is probably the best for mixing information, imagination, technical know-how and entertainment! To say I left inspired would be an understatement!
I have been interested in event photography for some time having been a professional portrait and wedding photographer for a number of years. I could see that there was an advantage to maximise profits in this field. I attended the course and was extremely impressed by the content and the knowledge of Mike and Stuart. Both are interesting and had the experience to inform us of the processes of successful event photography. I would certainly recommend this course to any one who is serious about event photography.
I have been thinking of a career change for some time and I have looked seriousley at Event Photography but not being a professional photographer just a keen amateur I felt unsure of the steps to take. I must admit that I was somewhat apprehensive of attending a course where I was either going to be the “poor relation” or totally out of my depth. Mike, Cath and Stuart immediately put us all at ease and, in reality, I believe the course was the best value for money and use of my time in a long while. Informative and relevant, humorous and interesting. The day flew by and I was buzzing with excitement when I went back to my room – I had decided to do back to back courses. I could see opportunities where this new knowledge would make all the difference. If there is life on Mars I want to do an event there!
Attended this course to learn from System Insight’s experience and knowledge. Having already benefited from very helpful advice over the phone from the team. This course aims to teach the buisness skills required to be successful in event photography using the skills and experience of people actually making an income from event photography. The course was well formatted and ensured there was adequate time to discuss individual concerns & ideas with the team as well and getting hands on experience with the printers and software recommended by them. A great course showing how to build the business and avoid costly errors . It really helps that the team are running their own business, willing to share openly their knowledge and are genuinely interested in helping you to succeed. Well worth the investment both in terms of price and time
The day course is a great introduction to the business side of event photography. Having done some work in this niche sector, bought items from System Insight and received their good advice before, I already had some knowledge but still benefited from hearing their experienced know-how and tips. These guys know the industry inside out and I have little doubt that if you want to hit the ground running as a startup or improve your existing business, System Insight are the people to contact. They know the best workflows and equipment, and the delivery of the course is often charismatic and fun. It’s also an opportunity to make contacts with like-minded photographers. It is all about maximising your takings during the event you’re shooting and reducing any superfluous effort and messing around. Although I’ve worked their method for event photography companies, I was a little sceptical of whether they were doing it right, but System Insight explain the best way of operating and why it works. There is the obvious dual purpose of selling items that are there for demonstration, but that is written in the course description and did not detract from the course. I feel that System Insight will do whatever they can to help people succeed in this industry, and am glad that I attended and got a boost in enthusiasm and confidence about event photography.
I am a professional photographer new to the event photography genre. I took advantage of a great deal for the Mitsubishi printer which included this course for free. The course content was great and well presented, the facilities were also great, good setting, good food and reasonable accommodation. Traveling from Manchester was the only down side as it was a lengthy train journey and 2 night stay. Glad the course was free! Was it worth the travelling and hotel bill? Yes I think it was. The course emphasised how to make money at event photography. Pretty crucial I think in todays market. Lots of thought provoking advice from the experts in this field. Would have liked a little more content on workflow on the course, but having said that the questions I raised after the course were answered by e-mail the following day which was pretty impressive. Overall 8 out of 10 mainly due to the location. Wish it had been in Manchester then it would have been a 9!
I know I can take a good photo, but being making a living out of it is a different story. Event photography is something that I’ve always been interested in, having experience in photographing sporting events. This course and the follow up marketing course give invaluable advice in a relaxed informal approach, in a great location. Worth every penny!
What can I say about this course it was great! People kept saying to me that your photos are great, why don’t you sell some? I thought yeah I could do that, But with no previous business history I set up and thought it’s easy, but I wasn’t selling much. lacking the confidence to charge although I have a mass of experience dealing with people. Having attended the course it has given me the confidence to know I can do this. The team were fantastic, the laid back way they imparted their knowledge was fantastic and I felt at ease throughout the two days. Yes if your going to attended the Event course then do attend the marketing course it would be a big mistake not to. I have come away knowing which direction I am going and the equipment I need (they don’t try to sell you equipment they give you the knowledge to know what you need). Since I have come home my knowledge has already given confidence to approach two new clients on the Wednesday and both have agreed to give my services a try. Cheers for the great two days will be in touch soon to let you know how I have done. The hotel is a great venue as well very helpful and very clean.
Book this course. There is lots of useful real world information on the business side of event photography. From what you need (including equipment), winning business and delivery at the event I started putting the advice on winning new business into action the day after the course and am already seeing the results through new leads. My advice is to attend this course, soak up the content and take action!!!
From start to finish the enthusiasm of Stu and Kit made even the detailed explanation of how a dye sub printer works engaging. As I sat there and listened I realised that I had been doing it very wrong for some time. I have not done that many event print jobs but the ones I have done would have been 10 times more profitable had I know the info given on this course. I am now going into the business with a real confidence that I do not have to make a whole load of old mistakes that will cost me money (I’m sure I’ll find some new ones….) Simply a great course that does not waste a minute of your time and is worth more than they charge. Enjoy

I have spent many hours sitting behind a computer completing on line course studies in photography and without doubt this training day gave be more insight and equipped me far better than any course material I have completed to date. The training day itself is very relaxed and open and there was ample opportunity to ask questions and clarify any points. I found both Stuart and Mike very helpful and the day just whizzed by. The venue was excellent and located in easy access from most directions. I would highly recommend this course irrespective of whether you are an experienced photographer or just like me commencing a new career. Thank you Stuart
I’ve just completed a 1-2-1 event photography course and it’s been one of the best courses I’ve done in a long time. Choosing the 1-2-1 option for me was perfect and Mike was exceptional. He made me feel that I wasn’t on a course, but taking to a mate of mine, we covered everything and more. I have attended several photography/business courses over the past few years,and this one does “exactly what it says on the tin”no flowery words and graphs,just knowledge built up over years of experience within the business imparted with a frank and down to earth style,a very informative and enjoyable day,I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get into event photgraphy
As many others have written previously….confirmed that i am heading in the right direction with my business, but then “KABOOM”!!! We were shown how to almost double our takings….it’s so simple, and it works!!! Great, informative, informal day…thanks once again.
A great course. It helped confirm that in many areas I’m on the right track but also gave me some new ideas and put flesh on the frame of some ideas I’ve been wre4stling with. Workflow was a specific area I wanted to look at and the course provided some really simple solutions as well as some expensive options! The only problem was that I couldn’t stay for the sales and marketing course which means I’ll have to go back again!
Before I attended this course I was under the impression that I was somewhat blinkered!!! However, after attending the course, I realised I was in fact completely blind and had no idea how to run a profitable photography business. I had no idea how to market myself or indeed run a photography business, I should have done business courses as opposed to photography ones!!! Nevertheless, I now feel more confident that I have completed the course and hopefully I may be able to acquire some new business and move forward with a more profitable future. Thanks to Stuart and Mike and their wealth of information and knowledge of the subject matter which they impaired upon us. I also attended the Marketing for success Training Course which was held the day after. In short, great structured courses providing me with a treasure trove of information.
Stuart and Mike posed the question about event photography, Is it the best business in the world, well if the answer is yes then this is the best course in the world! I’m in the process of establishing myself as a pro photographer and during the last 2 years I’ve dabbled in many different types and styles to find a niche that is worth pursuing, thanks to this course I now have a clear business plan in my head and am raring to go. Seriously I can’t understand why any event photographer is not following the guidance, workflow and sales & marketing advice that Stuart and Mike are so passionate about and so willing to share. It really does make you wonder though,why they are so willing to share their advice and knowledge, maybe they haven’t realised what they are giving away yet, and if that is the case book yourself on this course before they do. Oh yes…when you do go on the course you’d better get yourself to the GP for a prescription of sleeping tablets, I haven’t slept properly since, the course gives you so many ideas and and a structure to move your business from average to extraordinary you’ll not want to waste a minute. In the few days since the course I have secured new customers, changed my workflow, trained an assistant and bought a new cash tin!! My only regret was not being able to stay on for the marketing course the following day. Many thanks to Stuart and Mike, the course has provided me with a focus and clear structures in which to make serious money from event photography.
