Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
Please find below some of the most frequently asked questions about this product. If you have a question that isn’t answered here then click on the chat button in the bottom right of the screen and we will be happy to help you.
- Can I change the media part way through a roll for another size?
Yes this is possible but ensure you keep the old paper and ribbon safe and in a dust free environment.
- Can I print other sizes on this media?
This is the maximum size that can be printed on the media. Depending upon the printer and print driver used it is often possible to print other sizes and sometimes have the printer trim to this size. Printers usually only cut horizontally across the media. 6×8 Media can often be used to print 2 x 6×4 prints as an example and some printers allow rollback to get the best use of the media when printing multiple sizes.
- How long does the media last before becoming unusable?
Dye Sub Print Media is very stable and doesn't have an official sell or use buy date. We have used media which is many years old and would imagine media would be perfectly useable if stored correctly for 5+ years.
- How do I load the media in my printer?
Loading of print media varies by printer but is often very similar between printers or even printer models. Refer to your user guide or view our guide to loading your print media
- I still have some paper left after my ribbon has been used up. What should I do?
Always replace the ribbon and paper at the same time. If supplied in the same box (like 99% of media) then they are a matched pair. Extra paper is provided on the roll to ensure there is spare paper in the event you change media size part way through.
- Do you supply Matt and Glossy paper?
The finish of the print is not dictated by the paper. It is a function of the printer driver as matt prints have a fine pattern printed in the top coating layer to give a matt finish. The majority of printers support this feature.
- Do I need special paper to print panoramic prints?
The panoramic printing function (if supported by your printer) is a feature of the printer and print driver and not the media. Printing panoramic prints will lessen the number of prints you get in a media pack due to more media being used.
- Do I need to remove media from a printer when transporting it?
If you are simply moving the printer by hand into a vehicle then it should be safe enough. However if sending a printer via a courier delivery company always remove the media. Sudden movements of the printer with media in can damage the printer.
